Harry Roque seeks amparo
A writ of amparo against his arrest has been requested by former Philippine President Harry Roque in reaction to an order from four committees looking into potential forbidden activity in Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).
In an intention to condemn him for any illegal activity, Roque—represented by his daughter Bianca Hacintha Roque—argued that the House of Representatives Quad Committee (QuadCom) is compelling him to supply specific documents and respond to a multitude of questions that may be used to link him to POGOs or IGLs.
After Roque refused to provide paperwork to support his enhancing fortune, the House set him for contempt and ordered his arrest. The nation’s POGO-related crimes are being taken into by the Quad Committee.
Congress can conduct legislative examinations, according to Roque, but such power shouldn’t be applied in an oppressive or abusive way.
He respectfully claimed the respondents’ actions constitute a substantial abuse of discretion, abusing their legislative authority and usurping the investigative powers that belong to the judicial and executive branches of government. In the middle of arrest warrants for Roque, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has details about his likely presence.
