Coup rumors target Escudero
Just four months into his term, there have been rumors of a coup plot to bring down Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
Jinggoy Estrada, the Senate President Pro Tempore, dismissed the allegations and announced that he would succeed Escudero. While confessing that he had heard whispers of a coup a few weeks prior, he claimed it was not him.
Estrada argues that Escudero’s leadership—who took over as Senate leader in May from Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri—is still endorsed by the majority.
No plans to remove him from his post were made by Escudero. To Estrada, the assembly and legislative agenda are going to suffer from yet another Senate leadership changeover.
There are no getting ready for taking over the Senate leadership, as far as Senators Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa and Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III are informed.
Senator Cynthia Villar is not involved in a Senate coup, while Senator Loren Legarda and Senator Cynthia Villar are concentrated on their duties.
